In a recent project in Karamay, Xinjiang, Geosun’s GS-120G handheld LiDAR system was deployed to conduct a comprehensive 3D scan of the urban environment. Known for its extreme climate and broad, open landscapes, Karamay presents unique surveying challenges that demand both flexibility and precision.
Equipped with the Hesai XT32 LiDAR sensor and advanced SLAM algorithms, the GS-120G enabled accurate, real-time mapping without relying on GNSS signals—crucial for navigating areas with limited satellite visibility or complex architectural features.
Thanks to the GS-120G’s lightweight, highly portable design, the team was able to cover a large urban district efficiently. The resulting point cloud data revealed detailed structures of residential blocks, public facilities, road networks, and surrounding vegetation. The red rooftops, aligned road grids, and landscaping were all vividly captured, supporting applications in urban planning, infrastructure maintenance, and digital twin development.
This project demonstrates how Geosun’s handheld LiDAR solutions can adapt to a variety of environments, offering fast deployment and high accuracy even in the demanding terrains of western China.
