Accurate Terrain Scanning in a

Remote Mountain Village of Yunnan, China

 

In a recent terrain mapping project for a regional infrastructure development initiative in Yunnan Province, China, the Geosun GS-260X UAV LiDAR Scanning System was deployed to capture detailed topographic data in a traditional mountain village. This area is characterized by steep terrain, dense vegetation, and weak GNSS signal coverage due to high forest density and narrow valley paths.

Despite these natural challenges, the GS-260X performed with remarkable accuracy and consistency. Its advanced Hesai XT32 laser sensor, combined with Geosun’s proprietary high-accuracy GNSS/INS positioning system and powerful data fusion algorithms, enabled reliable data acquisition throughout the flight. The UAV maintained a terrain-following flight mode at 80 meters AGL and efficiently captured high-density point cloud data across the full 240-meter elevation variation.

Key Results:

  • Clear and detailed point cloud rendering of rooftops, terraced fields, narrow pathways, and vegetation structure

  • Smooth and consistent DEM output, even in areas with weak GNSS signal reception

  • Accurate identification of construction features, boundary lines, and ground surface layers

  • Strong vegetation penetration, allowing high ground point returns beneath tree canopies

This project not only demonstrated the robust adaptability of the GS-260X in signal-obstructed mountainous regions but also highlighted its value for land planning, rural infrastructure development, and digital village modeling.

The visual outputs, including full-color and intensity-based point cloud images, showcased the terrain and architecture of the village with stunning clarity, laying a strong data foundation for future design and implementation work.
