Heritage Conservation Mapping at Devin Castle, Slovakia
Powered by Geosun GS-130X UAV LiDAR Scanning System
Project Overview
Geosun's GS-130X UAV LiDAR system was deployed to capture detailed 3D data of Devin Castle, a prominent historical monument located near Bratislava, Slovakia. The mission focused on documenting the fragile medieval architecture and terrain with high accuracy, supporting conservation and digital preservation efforts.
Site Challenges
Ruins on a steep cliff with complex terrain and obstructed sightlines
Fragile stonework requiring non-contact survey methods
Limited accessibility to some upper structures
Variable light and shadow conditions affecting visual data collection
Flight Configuration
Flight Height: 50–80 m AGL (above ground level)
Speed: 6 m/s
Scan Overlap: 45%
Effective Range: Up to 120 m
Point Cloud Density: Over 120 pts/m²
RGB Camera: 26 MP integrated
Technical Highlights
High-definition point cloud acquisition preserved fine architectural details of stone walls, arches, and battlements
Multi-angle scanning captured obscured and collapsed areas
Combined visual + LiDAR data enabled textured 3D models for virtual tour applications
Accuracy: RMS < 5 cm; positional deviation < 3 cm in complex vertical areas
Project Outcomes
Generated a complete digital twin of the castle ruins
Provided data for structural risk analysis and terrain shift monitoring
Supported interactive educational tools and cultural tourism platforms
Facilitated pre-conservation planning through precise 3D measurements
Client Feedback
"This LiDAR scan gave us a full digital replica of the castle, even in hard-to-reach cliffside ruins. It's an invaluable tool for both preservation and public engagement."
