As one of China’s most celebrated ancient landmarks, Yellow Crane Tower (Huanghelou) holds a prominent place in Chinese cultural history. Located on Snake Hill by the Yangtze River in Wuhan, the tower has stood—through multiple reconstructions—for over 1,700 years, often praised in poetry and literature as a symbol of elegance and transcendence.
To assist in the digital conservation and monitoring of this national treasure, high-resolution 3D LiDAR scanning with the GS-260X UAV LiDAR system.
Despite the complex multi-tiered structure and urban surroundings, the GS-260X captured high-density point cloud data that vividly rendered the tower's intricate eaves, ornate balconies, and rooftop details. Even the surrounding terrain and vegetation were precisely recorded.
Key Specs from the Mission:
Flight Altitude: 80 meters
Speed: 5 m/s
Vertical Accuracy (RMS): ±2.5 cm
Sensor: Hesai Pandar XT32 + integrated POS + RGB Camera
Output: Dense, detailed 3D point cloud, ideal for archival and analysis
The resulting 3D data provides accurate structural references for heritage professionals, enabling long-term restoration planning, virtual displays, and structural integrity assessment—all while preserving the historical essence of this iconic site.
With its strong penetration, terrain-following capability, and outstanding accuracy, the GS-260X proved to be a reliable tool for safeguarding cultural heritage in urban and geometrically complex environments.
